Blockchain Non-Profits Faced with an Anti-ICO Clause

Youtube and Mailchimp appear to be continuing their non-discriminatory policy on the crypto space. The Mailchimp account of Blockchain Education Network (BEN), a 501(c)(3)* nonprofit organization, has been restricted due to alleged violations of some of its terms of use.

Blockchain non-profit organization encountered an ICO exclusion clause from Mailchimp and Youtube

According to a tweet posted on April 9, Mailchimp’s algorithm concluded that BEN violated the policy of limiting marketing activities for ICO projects. The nonprofit then denied promoting ICOs in any way, pointing out that the ban only aggravated similar restrictions from YouTube. Specifically, Youtube stopped BEN’s livestream after only 6 minutes, claiming that its content went against community standards. This video is about The Giving Block’s pioneering philanthropy.

Blockchain Education Network is an organization that connects university students with an interest in Blockchain. It supports student clubs on Blockchain as well as organizes orientation consulting programs and community development plans, targeting users around the world.

Although the foundation’s founder, Erick Pinos, confirmed that Mailchimp removed the limit on April 9 after an appeal was filed, he said this was already BEN’s second account. The first account has been banned since 2017 and is still locked. Another complaint sent to Youtube about the previous live broadcast after nearly a week still has not received a response.

ICO no more, ban still in place

Most of the restrictions on these popular content platforms appeared between 2017 and 2018, when the ICO market was at its most active. Many offers have been reported as deceptive, so the imposition of these restrictions is a measure of user protection. By the end of 2018, ICOs had almost completely evaporated.

Although ICO projects or IEOs (investment projects listed on direct exchanges like primexbt exchange ) had a brief re-emergence in 2019, crowdfunding has generally failed to show up. since the previous ICO investment boom.

Youtube has reintroduced bans to “purge cryptocurrency” since late 2019. In early 2020, many influencers’ accounts were shut down without warning. Even if other decentralized means exist, they are not really familiar to ordinary users.

Many of the bans have been lifted, just like for the Blockchain Education Network, but recent events show that prejudice against the crypto industry is still pervasive.
